Tenor saxophonist Dale Barlow is (alongside James Morrison) one of our few jazz artists with a real international profile, mainly stemming from his stint with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers in the 1980s (resulting in several albums, most featuring some of Barlow’s compositions). His reputation was further enhanced with recordings with American artists including the Cedar Walton Trio and Billy Cobham, as well as performances with Gil Evans’ Orchestra and Chet Baker. He has toured extensively throughout Europe and Britain, as well as Asia, South Africa, and the U.S.A. Returning to Australia in the late 80s, he began recording an extensive catalogue of albums as a leader. He will collaborate with pianist Jex Saarelaht, bassist Philip Rex and drummer Sam Bates.
